What is project ara?
This is everywhere on the internet
today. When there is something big on the net then it will definitely hold the big
G’s name to it. You guessed it right! It’s a Google’s project.
Project ara aims at developing modular
smart phones. Modular smart phones are nothing but a smart phone in which the
user can choose his hardware according to his preferences.
Project Ara is the codename for an activity that means to add to
an open hardware stage for making exceptionally measured smartphones. The stage
will incorporate a structural casing (endoskeleton that holds cell phone
modules of the manager's decision, for example, a showcase, cam or an
additional battery. It would permit clients to swap out failing modules or
redesign singular modules as developments develop, giving longer lifetime
cycles to the handset, and conceivably diminishing electronic waste. Project
Ara cell phone will start pilot testing in Puerto Rico later 2015 with a target
bill of materials expense of $50 for a fundamental dim phone. The undertaking
was initially headed by the Advanced Technologies and Projects group inside Motorola
Mobility while it was an auxiliary of Google. Despite the fact that Google had
sold Motorola to Lenovo, it is holding the task group who will work under the
course of the Android division
WHEN THE PROJECT ARA WILL GET STARTED?
PROJECT Ara is an advancement exertion, not an authority Google
item. Thusly, we don't have a business sector dispatch date. Nonetheless, we're
working towards a restricted business sector pilot in 2015.Concerning valuing, its much too soon to tell. We have set
designing and assembling objectives for the bill-of-materials expense of an
essential, section level Ara gadget to be in the $50-100 territory. It's
essential to note that this is simply the expense of the segments and says
nothing in regards to how it will be valued -it could be pretty much than that
(e.g., with a bearer contract). At last, we expect that module engineers will
have the capacity to set the costs for their modules sold in the Ara Module
Marketplace, much like versatile application designers do in application stores
today.

Modify EVERY LAYER OF YOUR NEW PHONE
Swiping left and right gives you a chance to travel through a
synopsis of your telephone — you begin at the business, with every last bit of
its choices open to you. From that point, you can spare specific modules you're
occupied with to your "stash." Then you really manufacture the
telephone itself; the last screen demonstrates your creation, the amount it
expenses, and some key specs like evaluated battery life. You can put in your
request in that spot.
Project ara and other phones are poles
apart
With project ara, you get to choose your
display panel, you get to choose your battery pack, and you get to choose your
memory module and every other component.
And therefore you get to customize your budget and your personal
requirements.
As the hardware is pick and place, the
possibilities are limitless. You can carry a sensor to test if water is clean.
It need not be attached to your phone. Just drop in your bag and fix it to your
phone when needed. You could use a
battery that lasts for days or a really awesome speaker or a gamer phone or it
could even be your car key. This means that when an individual component
breaks, you need not replace your phone. Just remove the broken component and
replace it with a fresh piece. Simple as that!
Mind blowing! Isn’t it?
Hold on there’s more!
The Ara configurator app
The Ara Configurator will be your
one-stop shop for customizing and purchasing your device’s modules. The app basically helps you to design your
smart phone.
The Ara manager app
The app allows the users to lock and
unlock the modules. The modules are held together to the phone by magnets. The
app controls the current to the specific electro-permanent magnet and thereby
controls the locking system of the modules.
Project ara’s master mind
A dutch designer Dave Hakkens developed
the concept of modular smart phones and he named it phonebloks. The name
phoneblok was given as you can just remove and replace the desired block
anytime. Later the concept was developed by Motorola’s Advanced Technology and Projects (ATAP) group
owned by Google. In the second half of 2014 the big G sold Motorola to Lenovo
retaining ATAP and all its patents. And so now the phonebloks project is called
Google’s Project ara. Why is it called Project ara? “As it turns out, our lead mechanical
designer is named Ara. And we like him. And we also like his name. So we named
the phone Ara. We hope you like it too.” , says Google.
DIFFERENT FROM MODULAR PHONES:
With a particular stage, you can pick the cam you need for your telephone as opposed to picking your telephone for the cam. You could have a sensor to test if water is clean. You could have a battery that goes on for quite a long time. A truly magnificent speaker. A gamer telephone. Alternately it could even be your auto key. The potential outcomes are boundless.
You can overhaul diverse parts of your telephone when you
require as well. Supplant a broken showcase. Set something aside for a top of
the line cam. Offer a module with your family, or swap one with your
companions. Presently you don't need to discard your telephone like clockwork.
What else… Want your feline on your telephone? Get a
custom shell. Feline's got cats? No issue, include those pictures as well. Is
it accurate to say that you are a games nut? Get your most loved group's logo
on your telephone.
To put it plainly, Ara gives you a chance to settle on astute
decisions and recount your story through your gadge
Ara’s
release date
Google
has planned its first launch of the phone in Puerto Rico. When asked why?
Google replied saying, “the region itself has a pretty undeveloped landline
system –– 77% of the population use mobile phones as their primary
communication tool”. Also the market’s major share of 25% is with ATAP. The
phones are to be sold from trucks.
Ara will
hit the world markets by august 2015.
Google is teaming up with Open mobiles and Claro to launch its ara phones. The entry level phones will be in the range of
$50-100.

prototype is as shown below and is called spiral 2

Google has already made changes since its
initial prototype. In its recent exhibit, google showed its latest spiral 2 prototype. At the second Project Ara Developers Conference at Google's
Mountain View headquarters, google displayed its baby working with a 720p display module and
receiver module attached the front, and the space for eight modules on the back
included things like a battery, camera and microUSB adapter. It also said with
spiral 2 you can actually replace the modules while the phone is still ON. The
goal is to give 1 to 2 minutes for the users to make the change.
Other
prototypes
The main hand behind the project is a small company called Yezz. Google didn’t want to allow htc, sony and the other leads into the project. Yezz at the Mobile World congress, 2015 revealed that it would be contributing a lot of brains to the project. Speaking to Pocket-Lint, Yezz said the modules will be connected to the phones via magnets and will stay attached till the user gives a command to separate them.
Toshiba
has already developed a camera working with project ara. It has decided to launch
the gizmo in 2016. An Indian based
company at Ahmedabad, eInfoChips has tied up with Toshiba to build, support and
distribute development kits for google Ara modules. Marvel chips and NVIDIA are
also with the big G on the project. Leading mobile app design and development
agency Two Toasters is to develop the applications of the project ara smart
phones.
These modular phones reduce the
electronic wastes to a great extent and are slso economical. As the phone can
be completely configured by the user, the phones are handy.
The project mainly aims at building a
device that will make the smart phones accessible to billions of people who
cannot afford iphones and galaxy. We wouldn’t be surprised if there would be a
word ara being added to the dictionary which would mean smart phones in the
future!
